Rules, Expectations, and Principles

These are the specific rules and expectations that I set for my classroom as well as the principles they are founded upon.  These are posted in the classroom and discussed with students at the beginning of the year.  They are referred to throughout the remainder of the year as needed.

Rules:

a.    Be respectful.

·      Specific examples:

                                               i.     Respect the safety and property of others.

                                             ii.     Respect the opinions and perspectives of others.

                                            iii.     Respect the right of others to learn.

·      Value: We must allow ourselves and others their right to a safe environment that will allow them to learn.  We must also respect the property of others.

b.    Be responsible.

·      Specific Examples:

                                               i.     Do as instructed when instructed.

                                             ii.     Make comments and ask questions.

                                            iii.     Take responsibility for your own actions and learning.

·      Value: We are accountable for our own actions and the consequences thereof.

c.     Be ready.

·      Specific examples:

                                               i.     Come on time and prepared.

                                             ii.     Have a positive attitude.

                                            iii.     Be on task.

·      Value: Our attitude determines our ability to learn and affects the class as a whole.  This includes being involved, trying (no “I can’t”), willingness to work and follow directions, etc.

Expectations:

The student's role in class is to LISTEN

·      Look me in the eyes

·      Involve yourself

·      Show me when you get it and when you don’t

·      Tune back in if you tune out

·      Español

·      No talking over
